Follow us on our new trip… Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and … Vegas.

We will begin with Denver, I will post some good restaurants and some Christmas shops, then we will go to Aspen, Marble and Crystal mill.

Leaving Colorado, it will be Taos, Santa fe and Gallup.
Then Arizona and the incredible town of Sedona, with a surprise, stay tuned…
Finishing with Vegas, Vegas has its own post. This town is so whoa …

Denver

Here we are, after a flight from Paris to Atlanta and a second flight from Atlanta to Denver, our road trip can begin.
Denver is the capital of the US state of Colorado, nicknamed “The Mile Hight City” because its official elevation is exactly one mile above sea level.

You can still find nice houses around Denver, many of them from the beginning of the XIX century.

One of our favourite visit is Molly Brown House Museum. It tells the story of  the legendary Titanic heroine Magaret Brown.

Read our post about Denver’s restaurants.

Aspen

We left Denver to go to Aspen. I don’t know this town in winter, I guess it must be very busy because of the ski areas and certainly quite expensive. During summer this town is sunny and very nice to walk around. Founded as a mining camp in the 80’s (1880) it’s now a very well known sky resort. The name comes from the aspen trees in the area.
The Jerome hotel was still under repair in 2012 when we last came, it’s now a very nice restored place with a bar, restaurant…

Our favorite place in Aspen is Molly Gibson Lodge. The staff, through mail or directly at the desk is nice and helpful.  They give you a parking permit that you can use in some areas and to park close to the hotel, parking was not an issue for us in August, it might not be the same in winter, I don’t have an opinion about it, but I read on Tripadvisor people writing about it. There is no problem to park around this lodge in summer. You can use bikes if you don’t want to walk. But many things are really around so it’s easy to walk around. Aspen is quite expensive when it came to hotels and this place is worth the price. There is no real nice view from the room we had, number 121, but we didn’t came to spend time in the room. The room was big for our luggage and there is a fireplace with real wood in the room and this is really romantic. The bath is huge, really HUGE. There is a heated swimming pool, not very big but not a lot of people around so we mostly enjoyed it by ourself. I’m not a big fan of their breakfast, but it’s free, hot and you have some choices.
One great restaurant in Aspen is Japanese of course, Matsuhisa-Aspen. Their cocktails menu with our favorite “the gardener”, the food… I guess I will write a post only on that place.
